General Guidelines
Right now we are only considering pieces under 2000 words.
Simultaneous submissions are okay as long as you let us know if a piece is published elsewhere. Please only send one submission at a time, and please wait at least one week before submitting again.

If you are an unpublished writer, please consider submitting to our New Writer Showcase.
Note: Please do not submit Dialogue Only stories here. We are only considering Dialogue Only stories as part of our contest right now.
Things That Generally Turn Us Off
- Stories over 2000 words
- Stories written in present tense (especially third person present tense)
- Stories with graphic dead baby scenes
- Stories about writers
- Stories about struggling marriages
- Stories set in bars
- Stories with more backstory than plot
- Stories with undeveloped characters
- Stories that are overly reflective
- Stories that rely heavily on second person
We aren't saying that we never accept these things, but they are less likely to be published. If you think your story is great, send it to us. The worst we can do is reject you. Don't take it personally. These are just our tastes.

The Rules: Compose a short story entirely of dialogue. You may use as many characters as you want. Your entry must be under 2000 words. Your entry does not have to follow standard rules for writing dialogue. Your entry cannot use any narration (this includes tag lines such as he said, she said, etc.). These are the only rules. Manipulate them however you see fit.

Each month we will publish one story by an author with no previous publications.
Only submit here if you have never had your work published before. This means that your work has never been published by any other online or print magazine. This section of the magazine is designed for new writers only.
Please do not submit here if you have stories forthcoming with other publications.
Stories must be under 1500 words.
Stories submitted here will NOT be considered for the regular monthly issue. Stories accepted for the New Writer Showcase are eligible for the Story of the Month Contest and for the Semi-Annual magazine.
Note: We will only schedule a piece for the New Writer Showcase a month in advance. Once our schedule is full, we will close these submissions and withdraw all remaining stories. After a story is withdrawn, you may resubmit it as a regular submission, or you may hold onto it for another month.
